The Canon EOS R6 Mark II is a versatile mirrorless camera that combines strong photo performance with impressive video capabilities. It features an updated 24.2MP CMOS sensor and DIGIC X processing for improved autofocus, 4K 60p 10-bit video, and overall faster performance. The camera body has also been redesigned for more intuitive handling, including a top plate that offers easier access to different shooting modes.
The new 24.2MP CMOS sensor strikes a balance between resolution and performance, delivering excellent results in both photo and video applications, even in low-light conditions. The DIGIC X processor, borrowed from the R3, supports high-speed bursts and high-res 4K video. It enables continuous shooting at up to 40 fps with a silent electronic shutter or 12 fps with a mechanical shutter, with autofocus and autoexposure readings before each frame. The camera also offers a 30 fps RAW Burst mode, capturing moments up to 0.5 seconds before the shutter is pressed.
In addition to stills, the R6 Mark II excels in video recording. It offers high-resolution UHD 4K 60p internal video using the full sensor width, with 10-bit sampling and support for Canon Log 3. The camera can utilize a 6K recording area for oversampled 4K shooting at 30p, resulting in improved sharpness, reduced moiré, and lower noise. It also supports 180p slow-motion playback at Full HD resolution. HDR-PQ recording is possible for in-camera HDR production, and clean 6K output at up to 60 fps is available via the micro-HDMI port. The camera allows unlimited recording times and includes mic and headphone ports, as well as a multi-function shoe for wide compatibility with accessories.
The R6 Mark II features the advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system with 1053 automatic AF points covering the entire sensor area, providing fast, responsive, and precise focusing. Deep learning technology enhances subject detection and tracking, recognizing people, animals, and vehicles. The system automatically locks onto subjects and maintains sharp focus during burst captures and video recording. The low-luminance limit of Dual Pixel AF II reaches an impressive -6.5 EV, enabling accurate focusing in nighttime conditions.
The camera incorporates a 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS) that corrects up to 7 stops of camera shake when shooting handheld, helping to capture sharp images in low-light situations and reduce shake in videos. The IBIS can also work in conjunction with lenses featuring optical image stabilization, compensating for up to 8 stops of camera shake depending on the lens used. Movie Digital IS combines optical and sensor-shift stabilization with digital IS for even steadier footage during movement.
The R6 Mark II features a high-resolution 3.69m-dot electronic viewfinder and a vari-angle touchscreen LCD for flexible composition and shooting from different angles. The body design includes four control dials for intuitive control and a joystick controller for fast focus point selection and menu navigation. The top plate has been redesigned for more intuitive handling.
Designed for reliability, the camera has a dust- and moisture-sealed construction suitable for inclement conditions. It offers dual SD memory card slots compatible with UHS-II cards for fluent 4K video recording and high-speed continuous shooting.
Connectivity options include USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 for charging and file transfers, the ability to use the camera as a Full HD 30p webcam, headphone and external microphone ports, a micro-HDMI port for external recording, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for wireless transfers and remote camera control from mobile devices.
The camera introduces a Next-Generation Multi-Function Shoe, which adds a row of pins for greater accessory functionality and power
