Its bright f/1.4 maximum aperture delivers low-light performance alongside precise shallow depth-of-field control for subject isolation.

Featuring a redesigned optical layout with four aspherical elements and two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements, the lens suppresses spherical and chromatic aberrations to deliver high edge-to-edge sharpness and clean bokeh. A newly developed AAC (Advanced Amorphous Coating) reduces surface reflections, ghosting, and flare under intense backlighting. Autofocus is driven by a high-thrust dual High-Response Linear Actuator (HLA) system with a floating focus design for rapid, accurate tracking down to an 11-inch minimum focus distance, while optimized focus group placement reduces focus breathing for smooth video focus pulls. Weighing 1.2 lb and measuring 3.75 inches long—14% smaller and 20% lighter than its predecessor—the weather-sealed housing incorporates an assignable dual AFL button configuration, a click/de-click aperture ring, and a locking petal-type lens hood.
