The Canon EOS R6 camera delivers exceptional performance, capturing split-second details with speeds up to 12 fps, making it ideal for dynamic action photography. Wildlife photographers and photojournalists will appreciate the selectable electronic (silent) shutter mode, which allows for image capture at up to 20 fps.
Built around a 20MP full-frame CMOS sensor, the EOS R6 offers a balance between resolution and workflow efficiency, catering to those who primarily work with web and small print formats. The sensor is paired with the powerful DIGIC X image processor, enabling impressive stills and video capabilities, and a wide sensitivity range from ISO 100 to 102400, expandable up to ISO 204800.
The camera supports UHD 4K video recording at up to 60 fps and Full HD at 120 fps for slow-motion playback. Internal recording is available in 4:2:2 10-bit, with support for Canon Log and HDR-PQ for enhanced color control and high dynamic range output. Dual Pixel CMOS AF is available for all recording settings, and external recording via the HDMI port allows for clean 4K output to an external recorder.
The updated Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system features 1053 selectable focusing points, covering approximately 100% of the image frame. It provides fast and precise autofocus performance, similar to a camcorder’s focusing capabilities. The system utilizes two separate photodiodes within each pixel, resulting in efficient phase-detection across the majority of the image sensor. This reduces focus hunting and ensures accurate focus placement. The Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing during video recording, with options to adjust tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Touch AF enables intuitive rack focus by simply touching elements on the touchscreen. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is enhanced by Deep Learning technology, gradually improving subject recognition, eye detection, and face detection for both humans and animals.
The EOS R6 introduces a five-axis sensor-shift image stabilization system, compensating for up to eight stops of camera shake. This innovative feature, a first for EOS cameras, provides effective stabilization for handheld shooting, working in conjunction with lens-based optical image stabilization for both native RF lenses and adapted EF lenses.
