Canon EOS RP: Compact Full-Frame Excellence

The Canon EOS RP combines a large full-frame sensor with a portable form factor, offering flexible imaging capabilities. Its 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor enable high-resolution stills and UHD 4K video recording across a broad sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000. The camera supports continuous shooting up to 5 fps and features an advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF system with 4779 on-sensor phase-detection points for fast and accurate focus acquisition during both stills and video shooting.

Enhanced Viewing and Connectivity

The EOS RP is equipped with a 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a rear 3.0″ 1.04m-dot vari-angle touchscreen LCD monitor, allowing for easy viewing from various angles. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities enable wireless remote camera control and direct image sharing to linked mobile devices.

Canon RF Lens Mount

Featuring the RF lens mount, the EOS RP supports Canon’s RF-mount lenses. This mount, with its wide 54mm diameter and short 20mm flange-back distance, allows for the design of faster and smaller lenses compared to SLR equivalents. The mount incorporates a 12-pin electronic contact system for advanced autofocus and image stabilization capabilities. It is also fully compatible with existing EF and EF-S-mount lenses through an optional EF-EOS R Mount Adapter.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF

The Dual Pixel CMOS AF system provides smooth and fast focusing performance, similar to that of a camcorder. It utilizes two separate photodiodes within each pixel, resulting in a dense phase-detection network across the image sensor. This reduces focus hunting and enables precise focus placement. The system is effective in still photography, acquiring focus quickly and accurately for moving subjects. In video mode, Movie Servo AF ensures smooth and natural focusing during subject and distance changes, with customizable tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face or Eye Tracking priority. Touch AF allows for intuitive rack focus by simply touching elements on the touchscreen. The system’s subject tracking capabilities excel in movies, even in changing or cluttered scenes. It is also highly sensitive down to EV -5 for accurate AF in low-light conditions.

UHD 4K Video Recording

The EOS RP supports UHD 4K resolution recording up to 23.98 fps at 120 Mb/s, as well as Full HD 1080p and HD 720p at 60 fps for slow-motion playback. In-camera 4K video has 4:2:0 sampling and 8-bit color depth, while external recorders can achieve 4:2:2 8-bit output. Audio can be recorded using the built-in stereo microphone or an external mic via the 3.5mm jack. 5-axis Dual Sensing IS minimizes camera shake for smoother and sharper video.

Body Design and Additional Features

The EOS RP features a bright and clear 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a 3.0″ 1.04m-dot vari-angle LCD touchscreen for easy use from various angles. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enable wireless image transfer and remote control via the Canon Camera Connect app, which also supports geotagging. In-camera charging over USB is supported, and the camera is compatible with Canon’s EOS Webcam Utility software, which turns it into a versatile webcam for streaming and recording while maintaining internal recording capability.
