Sony PXW-Z90V 4K HDR XDCAM with Fast Hybrid AF

Introducing the Sony PXW-Z90V 4K HDR XDCAM Camcorder, a compact and versatile device packed with phase-detection autofocus (AF) and HDR capabilities. Designed for corporate events, broadcast news, and television production, this palm-style camcorder features a stacked 1″ Exmor RS CMOS sensor with UHD 4K resolution, a 12x Zeiss optical zoom, an OLED viewfinder, and a 3.5″ touchscreen LCD monitor. It supports various recording formats, including XAVC Long for 4K and HD, as well as MPEG HD (optional license key required).

The Fast Hybrid AF of the PXW-Z90V utilizes high-density autofocus points and an advanced AF algorithm for highly accurate focusing and tracking, making it especially beneficial for UHD 4K shooting, even for individual operators. In movie recording mode, you can monitor your subject’s focus by observing the appearance of phase-detection AF frames. The 3.5″ touchscreen allows for quick focus switching between subjects, and you can adjust AF Drive Speed, Tracking Depth Range, and Subject Switching Sensitivity according to your specific shooting needs.

With Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), you can seamlessly integrate your 4K recordings into an HDR workflow without the need for post-production color grading. The PXW-Z90V’s 12x optical Zeiss zoom and 18x 4K digital zoom (24x in HD) deliver high-quality contrast and resolution, while the integrated ND filter function provides greater exposure and depth-of-field control.

This camera supports Sony’s Slow and Quick Motion, enabling variable frame rate shooting, including 120 fps in HD. It records to a variety of formats, frame rates, and codecs, including 4K UHD and HD in XAVC Long. Footage is stored on two SD memory card slots, allowing for simultaneous recording or relay mode for backup. The 3G-SDI output ensures seamless integration with professional studio environments.

The PXW-Z90V offers external microphone support via two 3-pin XLR audio inputs and a 3.5mm mini input. It also has a built-in microphone for audio recording during shooting. For multicamera productions, it seamlessly integrates with Sony’s MCX-500 live switcher (sold separately).

Live streaming is made easy with support for RTMP/RTMPS protocols, which can be done directly from the camera using Wi-Fi or via Ethernet with optional converters. No computer is required for streaming. Additionally, the camera is compatible with Sony’s XDCAM air, allowing you to upload proxy footage to the cloud and enable remote editing. You can even control the camera using Sony’s free Content Browser Mobile app on your smartphone or tablet.

Featuring a 1″ Exmor RS CMOS sensor with 14.2 million effective pixels, the PXW-Z90V delivers optimal image quality. The Zeiss T* lens with a 12x optical zoom (18x Clear Image Zoom in UHD 4K) provides versatility in framing shots. The camcorder offers frame rate flexibility, allowing you to record UHD 4K video at different frame rates, and it supports super slow motion recording up to 960 fps. The choice of multiple codecs, such as XAVC Long and MPEG-4 HD, offers versatility in recording options.

The PXW-Z90V incorporates built-in ND filters with multiple settings for optimal exposure and depth-of-field control. It features two memory card slots—one for SDHC/SDXC cards and the other compatible with both SDHC/SDXC and Memory Stick PRO Duo/Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo cards. The camcorder also includes Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities, enabling FTP file transfer and one-touch device connection, respectively.
